Jonathon Dawes

“I have a passion for architecture with an elemental simplicity; architecture that curates space, form, light, materials and contextual history that engages with an individual’s experience, to inspire.”

Architectural Graduate

B. Design (Architecture) - University of Newcastle
M. Arch (with First Class Honours) - University of Newcastle

Even before graduating from the Masters of Architecture (with first class honours) Jonno had had a few years’ experience in architectural practice. He won the Australian Institute of Architects’ Newcastle Architecture Award in collaboration with E.J.E and a Colorbond Award commendation for “The Axis” house, Lake Macquarie in 2016, which was designed while he was still at University.

Jonno relishes the positive collaborative approach to architecture within the SHAC team. Each project is questioned, developed and individually pushed to respond to the brief. Jonno enthusiastically embraces the opportunities within SHAC as he hones his skills in residential and large commercial projects within the team.

Jonno enjoys seeing how people experience and encounter the built environment. Embracing the philosophy of  “genchi genbutsu”, he travels widely to see and experience architecture of different cultures, from the Taj Mahal in India to tea houses in the Nepalese mountains. In his spare time Jonno immerses himself in water activities such as ocean bath swimming, sailing and surfing.
