Karma has been at SHAC for three years and recently completed her Master of Architecture at the University of Newcastle. Karma has worked on several education and infrastructure facilities with SHAC, displaying a willingness and ability to drill down into fine detail, and an insistence on doing things properly and understanding a project holistically.

Karma’s Master’s research focused on situating architecture within Country, exploring how design can be an act of stewardship that pauses, listens, and responds with care and kindness. Her studies investigated the deep history of Australian architecture beyond the colonial lens, recognising an architecture grounded in Country and knowledge systems refined over tens of thousands of years. This approach has shaped her understanding that designing with Country is not about invention, but about humility, slowing down, and listening. Karma acknowledges the invaluable guidance of the First Nations mentors who supported her throughout her degree.

Karma draws inspiration from a wide range of sources, reflecting the exploratory nature of architectural practice. A constant influence, however, is nature. As she notes, “Nature is where I gain a lot of my inspiration, and much of my art reflects the natural world.”

Outside of architecture, Karma is an avid sportsperson and a highly accomplished sailor and sailing coach. She enjoys staying active through running, CrossFit, and hiking. She also maintains a strong creative practice, regularly engaging in painting, drawing, and other artistic pursuits.
